Hackathon We Shape The Future

During the three-day ‘We Shape The Future’ hackathon organised by Windesheim and MBO College Lelystad, around 170 students from various degree programmes set to work on their assignment: to design an innovative solution for the neighbourhood of the future in Flevoland.

The students tackled one of these three challenges:

  • Buildings: how do you design a building that creates value for both people and nature?
  • Public space: how do you create a public space in which people and nature reinforce one another?
  • Mobility: how do you ensure that people, goods and services can move around a new neighbourhood in a smart, sustainable and accessible way?

Windesheim and MBO College Lelystad invited various local authorities, businesses and organisations to share their practical experiences, answer questions and help guide the students forward. On behalf of Qua-vac, Joost Kreuger guided students studying the ‘Buildings’ theme through the challenges we face as a society and the technical solutions that could contribute to a more sustainable society and the creation of buildings that add value for people and nature.

It was hugely inspiring to see that young people not only have the future ahead of them, but are also taking charge of it. Well done to Windesheim Urban Innovation Research Group and MBO College Lelystad, as well as Horizon Flevoland and all the other parties involved.
