Making the Water Chain More Sustainable at Lelystad Airport Businesspark

Lelystad Airport Businesspark (LAB) is working with various partners, including Qua-vac, to make the entire water chain more sustainable. This involves reducing drinking water use and efficiently collecting and transporting wastewater.

Innovative Sewer System
LAB took its first step towards a more sustainable water system back in 2020. The business park implemented Vacuflow®, our innovative vacuum sewer system that uses suction to transport water to a central collection point. Notably, toilet water (black water) is immediately separated from other household water (grey water), making it possible to recover valuable resources from black water in the future. For this project, Qua-vac also supplied water-saving vacuum toilets, enabling LAB to operate a near water-neutral and circular system.

Thanks to the Vacuflow® system, businesses at LAB are saving large volumes of drinking water, energy, and raw materials, while creating a fully circular cycle for all (waste)water within the LAB area.

Recognition for Sustainable Approach
LAB recently won the first Sustainable Water Use Award, an initiative by drinking water company Vitens. This award is given to companies that make significant efforts to conserve drinking water and inspire others. The jury praised this project as a model for other industrial parks and described it as unique.

Together with our partners, we are building a future-proof, circular approach to water management.
