Hithadhoo, The Maldives

Hithadhoo is located in the southern part of the Maldives. It’s a picturesque island that embodies the natural beauty and tranquillity of the tropical paradise. Hithadhoo is part of Addu Atoll, also known as Seenu Atoll, the largest populated island in the Maldives. In order to improve the water quality and protect the environment, Qua-vac installed the Vacuflow® a vacuum sewer system in Hithadhoo.

The Maldives is also home to several protected marine areas and biosphere reserves, aimed at preserving the delicate ecosystems and biodiversity of the region. These conservation efforts contribute to the sustainability and preservation of the Maldives. Exfiltration can contaminate the surrounding area.

With a vacuum sewerage system exfiltration can never happen and is absolutely fail-safe. It proved to be the ideal solution for preventing exfiltration, improving water quality, and reducing maintenance costs.

Qua-vac’s Vacuflow® system proved to be the solution for addressing the challenges faced by Hithadhoo. A total of 1810 households now enjoy the benefits of this advanced system, which is supported by two efficient vacuum stations that cater to the entire area. By installing the underground mains and utilizing vacuum piping, the project achieved remarkable cost savings in terms of both labour and materials, surpassing those of traditional gravity sewers. The reduced expenses can be assigned to the smaller diameter of the vacuum mains, which minimized the need for extensive trenching and labour-intensive work.
