For quite some time, municipal administrators in Groningen struggled with the question of how to end surface discharge of domestic wastewater in the Noorderhaven. The Noorderhaven, located in the heart of the old city center and as a free port a unique home for more than fifty houseboats.
Qua-vac offered a customized but easy-to-implement and energy-friendly solution. In a consortium including Sweco Nederland, the Noorderhaven was equipped with two vacuum sewage collection systems and completely new energy facilities for its residents on the water.
Qua-vac provided layouts, piping diagrams, flow calculations and two fully automated and underground located ejector vacuum stations. Each station provided collection of wastewater in a closed system through strategically placed shore boxes equipped with 30-meter long suction hoses and our 63mm. Vacuflow valve.
Forward-thinking, wireless automation delivers energy savings as vacuum is generated only when houseboat owners empty their newly installed storage tanks. The collected wastewater is discharged from the ejector stations to the municipal sewer system eliminating pollution of city waters by domestic sewage.
