In 1865, Simon Hendrik Quatfass starts a forge at the Ringdijk in Watergraafsmeer, where eventually all five of the children of son Johan Friedrich Quatfass will find a job. In 1945 the forge starts producing the first gas stoves, next to the coal stoves they are already producing.

In the building of the old steam tram depot at the Middenweg in Watergraafsmeer, Dietrich Gottreich (Dé) Quatfass Sr. starts a factory of industrial kitchen installations in 1954.

Invention of vacuum sewerage
Almost 100 years after Charles Tilleman Liernur designed the first big sewerage network (the Liernursystem), the Swedish Joel Liljendahl receives patent on the transportation and the collection of wastewater through vacuum technology in 1956.

Electrolux buys rights
The Swedish Electrolux AB buys the rights to vacuum technology from Joel Liljendahl in 1968.

Electrolux – Quatfass
In 1964 the factory at Watergraafsmeer moves to Diemen and in 1969 Quatfass NV is sold to Electrolux AB. They collaborate on the further development of vacuum sewage technology and vacuum toilets. Meanwhile Dietrich Gottreich (Dé) Quatfass Jr. has joined the board of Electrolux – Quatfass.

Businessunit sold to Evac
In 1985 Electrolux AB announces they will no longer consider vacuum sewerage as part of their core business and decide to sell this unit to the Swedish Evac AB. The employees will continue working in Weesp for daughter company Evac B.V. led by Dé Quatfass.

Start Qua-vac Weesp
After five years, in 1990, Evac AB decides to focus on the Marine segment. Dé Quatfass buys all rights concerning vacuum sewerage and the name Qua-vac is born. Qua-vac will continue their partnership with Evac as a Benelux agent in Marine products.

From Weesp to Almere
Qua-vac continues to grow and because of that, they move from Weesp to Almere in 1996. On june 25th the first stone of the new building at the Televisieweg is placed by Robin Quatfass, grandson of Dé Quatfass.

New sanitation
In Sneek the sustainable village Noorderhoek is build. In this area the citizens live with a clean and sustainable vision to the future. For Qua-vac this is not a new market, but it is the first order of this size: about 250 households were provided with a vacuum toilet and a food waste system. Qua-vac is now the frontrunner in new sanitation, which is becoming increasingly important in society.

ISO 9001 certified
In 2011 Qua-vac is officially ISO 9001 certified. This norm sets requirements to the quality management system of an organization and is a huge milestone for Qua-vac!

Ivar Quatfass CEO
Ivar Quatfass, son of Dé Quatfass, has been working for Qua-vac since 1992. Ivar gained experience on all departments and, in 2014, after gradually taken on more responsibilities, he is instated as CEO of Qua-vac B.V.

Qua-vac India PVT LTD
Due to the growth on the Infra (Vacuflow) division, Qua-vac opens up a new office in Bangalore, India: Qua-vac India PVT LTD. The Bangalore office is staffed with qualified engineers, who cooperate with the Project managers at the main office in Almere. The two offices combined, now provide employment to more than 40 people.

In 2016 the Qua-vac India Foundation is founded. QIF is a lab for sustainable livelihood, which goal is to help improve human kind by knowledge and development. QIF is operating in the sectors agriculture, healthcare, education, water treatment, waste treatment and sustainable energy

By contiuously innovating, Qua-vac receives the official Kiwa quality mark in 2019. This certificate stands for protection of drinking water at waterinstallations by way of reverse flow mechanism.
