At Qua-vac we find it very important to use our expertise in a conscious way and to support good causes. By continuously innovating, investing in long-term relationships and with passion for our profession, we work together towards a better world and a sustainable environment.
Mercy Ships is a foundation that we are happy to support. Mercy Ships have been providing free medical care to people in need since 1978, using their hospital ships. They currently have two hospital ships – the Africa Mercy and the Global Mercy. Both ships are specially equipped to help people in the poorest countries in Africa. For several reasons, a ship is the best way to reach people and provide them with the necessary help and support. The use of a hospital ship ensures a safe and hygienic environment, for example to minimize the risk of infections. Qua-vac can help with this. With Evac Group’s vacuum sewage and water treatment system, we can help Mercy Ships provide the safest environment for the people who come on board for medicine, treatment or even surgery. Can you tell me more about Mercy Ships?
Mercy Ships is an international medical aid organization that has provided free surgery and other health care since 1978 to people for whom safe medical care is unavailable. Every year, 16.9 million people die worldwide due to the lack of this. Mercy Ships feels called to combat this need, because every person has the right to medical care. The organization works with partners in African countries, providing training to local health workers and supporting the construction of medical infrastructure to have a lasting impact.
Each year, more than 3,000 volunteers from more than 60 countries serve aboard the two largest private hospital ships in the world, the Africa Mercy® and the Global Mercy™.
Professionals such as surgeons, dentists, nurses, health trainers, chefs and engineers donate their time and skills to accelerate access to safe surgical and obstetric care and anesthesia. Mercy Ships has offices in 16 countries and an Africa Service Center in Dakar, Senegal and works with thousands of volunteers, partners and donors worldwide.
What is the mission of Mercy Ships?
Making medical care possible for every person. We bring hope and healing to the poorest of the poor.
How does Qua-vac contribute to this mission?
Qua-vac contributes by supplying the necessary consumables for the Qua-vac systems at favorable conditions, by sharing the network and by sponsoring the annual report of Mercy Ships Holland for many years.
Why is the work of Mercy Ships so important?
Every year, 16.9 million people die worldwide because they do not have access to (safe) surgical care. Mercy Ships would like to do something about this.
Why is the collaboration between Qua-vac and Mercy Ships important?
The work of Mercy Ships is done by many volunteers and partners worldwide, all of whom contribute from their personal capabilities. Qua-vac has unique access to the knowledge and consumables required for the Qua-vac system on board.
How does the Qua-vac system contribute to your daily work on the hospital ship?
The Qua-vac system on board the ships guarantees efficient use of water on board the ship through the smart vacuum system. This is of great importance in the African countries where Mercy Ships works. The pipes take up little space, which also allows for efficient use of the (limited) space on board.
How would you describe the collaboration with Qua-vac?
Qua-vac is an indispensable partner for Mercy Ships with a very long, loyal and personal involvement in the mission.
